In May, I wrote that the new search user was the trend and that Google’s product announcements were the distraction. Google has now handed us a year’s worth of data that confirms the behavioral shift and puts specific numbers on it. In the report “How People Are Using AI Mode in the U.S.” (published May […]
OpenAI is seeking engineers to develop new image, video, native, and conversational ad formats for ChatGPT, moving beyond the standard sponsored unit tested since February. Three listings on OpenAI’s careers page, first surfaced by Digiday, describe building ads across text, image, video, native, conversational, and interactive surfaces, all within OpenAI’s new monetization team. More formats would […]
Google’s VP of Search, Liz Reid, sat down for an interview where she talked about the relationship between Google and publishers. When asked what the new rules are for showing up in AI search, she said that publishers need to publish content that people actually want to read. Google Says Publisher Traffic Loss Is Not […]
Most of what gets written about AI and marketing this year reads like a warning label. Taylor Borden, an editor at LinkedIn, emailed me last week with a question she’s putting to a handful of writers for a special edition of her newsletter, The Work Shift. Channel and content resource work separation isn’t new, but the pressure has increased as search results have become even more complex. Depending on the query, Google can include AI Overviews, text ads, shopping results, […]
About 59% of TikTok videos served to a new account’s For You feed are AI slop, according to a report from Kapwing, the video creation tool company. That’s roughly three times the rate Kapwing found on YouTube. The company manually reviewed over 10,000 TikTok videos across 20 categories and ran a separate fresh-account test, counting […]
This week’s Ask an SEO question is: “Why have page impressions increased so much in GSC, but my page traffic is reducing? I thought it might be AIO, but when I look into this, not all pages have AI Overviews – what else could be causing impressions to increase so much?” Good question, and there […]
YouTube is expanding its in-app video sharing and messaging feature to the U.S., U.K., Brazil, Singapore, and several U.S. territories, per the availability list on its help page. The rollout, announced in a blog post, lets users 18 and older share videos and chat about them without leaving the YouTube app. It brings back a […]
